Effects of Earthquake Tragedies

Trauma, pain, grief and shortage—those are the most terrible effects one could ever experience during earthquake tragedies. Learn how each of these effects determines one’s loss and experiences with such tragedies as earthquakes.

Earthquakes are results of sudden uncontrolled seismic waves and unexpected release of energy within the earth’s crust. It usually manifests shaking within the earth’s surface depending on its magnitude making 3 as minimum and 7 above as the most extreme effects. Earthquakes cause land-based structures to shake, streets to crack, and worst, if the epicenter is on seabed, tsunami occurs. This is what usually happens when there is a high magnitude of earthquake within an area, causing injuries, loss of properties and worst, death.

Trauma

People having to experience the worst magnitude of earthquakes are traumatized not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. There will be episodes of flashbacks and that causes mild to severe trauma which can either be temporary or permanent. Such traumas can also be treated, depending on the severity of its damages. It also depends on how the person reacts upon it, whether he’ll accept treatment or not.

Pain

It is subjected to physical, mental or emotional pain. Such tragedies really affect one’s perspective in life and to those who were badly hurt cannot overcome the situation immediately. Earthquakes are one of the worst tragedies one could ever experience and it will bring fear of having to survive when it happens. Pain can also be treated the same as trauma, but one has to exert more effort in reaching his goal to overcome the pain he has experienced during that specific moment.

Grief

This is those who have lost their loved ones and lost everything they have on an earthquake. Not everybody is lucky to have survived a high-magnitude earthquake and has caused severe damages to the environment and those who live within that area. This is by far the worst experience one could ever have, to lose someone and something dearly in just one snap unexpectedly.

Shortage

This goes to the entire community as with severe earthquakes, there will be shortage of natural resources and commodities such as food, water and shelter. One could never survive without these necessities because it is our means of living. So this goes to everybody who has been in that area where the earthquake had happened causing the survivors to suffer more because they don’t have any other means of survival.

These are just the worst of the effects one could ever experience through an earthquake. One could never expect it to happen as we could never determine how our fate will be in the present and future. It is just a matter of living one day at another and never missing out to continue making use of what you have right now for we will never know when our lives will end. Earthquakes give us a lesson to remember- to never let each day go through without having to live by each priceless value that we have. This is just an experience for us to remember that nothing is permanent in this world except change and we should be ready for that big change anytime it will happen.
