Steve Williams: Pro Wrestler dies

December 31, 2009 – 12:43 am

Steve Williams, 49, a well known pro wrestler in the 80s and 90s died late Tuesday night after a long battle with throat cancer.

Williams gained fame in the ring with a notorious name like “Dr Death,” but in real life, Steve was a real gentleman. A two time state prep wrestling champion and a standout career at University of Oklahoma, Steve was also four time All American Heavyweight wrestler. Under Coach Barry Switzer, he was an All Big Eight conference offensive guard.

Steve Williams was diagnosed with throat cancer in later 2003 and underwent major throat surgery a few years later. Said Steve to the Denver Post in 2008, “I knew my choice was either to live or to die.I decided I was going to fight. God became my tag-team partner.”

Earlier this year, Steve was hopeful that he was on his way to recovery, “I’m hoping by Christmas. It would be a heck of a Christmas present,” he said

Unfortunately the cancer did return and took his life. He will be sorely missed.
